Dog Training Classes
Gosport Hampshire

Owning a dog can be fun and rewarding for all the family, however it can at times be daunting and time consuming to fit it with everyday life. As a trainer I have always had dogs; however I recently had my first child and fully appreciate how difficult it can be.

Our dog training classes are designed to help owners understand how their dog's think and learn. We aim, using positive, reward based training, to teach you the necessary practical skills, helping you to motivate your dog when training and ultimately gain more focus and control. By teaching your dog the life skills needed to mix within our hectic environment, will help them to become a happy, well balanced animal and help to avoid behavioural problems developing.

Our puppy training and socialisation classes are held on Tuesday evenings at:

3rd Gosport Sea Scouts Hall
Jubilee Lodge
Park Road
Alverstoke
PO12 2HQ

Our Foundation, Improver's and Agility classes are held on Thursday evenings at:

The Scout Hall
Clayhall Road
Alverstoke
Gosport
Hampshire PO12 2BY

Puppy Training & Socialisation Classes

puppy training classes

It is important that all puppies are given the opportunity to develop into a happy and well balanced dog. To achieve this, it is beneficial to begin training as early as possible. Very quickly puppies mature and learn new behaviours (sometimes not the ones we want!) and it can be more difficult to train them later in life. It is far easier and more effective to teach your puppy the appropriate behaviour and to prevent behavioural problems developing as they mature.

Our puppy training classes are a four week course, designed to look at all aspects of owning a puppy, including housetraining, preventing separation problems developing, the importance of play and mental stimulation. We encourage all the family to come along and learn, and for this reason our classes are kept small to allow for a friendly, relaxed atmosphere.

Topics covered within the course are:

  • Introduction to teaching commands such as the sit, down, wait & stay
  • Teaching the recall
  • Walking on a loose lead
  • Socialisation with other puppies, children and people
  • Teaching appropriate ways to greet people
  • Discussing nutrition, handling and grooming
  • Understanding importance mental stimulation and appropriate play
  • How to prevent behaviour problems developing. Topics include, housetraining, chewing and play biting, attention seeking behaviours

If attending puppy training classes is difficult, the 'new puppy' consultation may be a suitable alternative. This This consultation is done in your own home and we operate within Gosport, Lee on the Solent, Fareham and Hampshire. The consultation aims to provide you with the foundations of knowledge needed when owning and training a new puppy, emphasising the importance of early socialisation and basic obedience, to ensure your puppy develops into a well rounded and sociable dog. Please phone or email Bark2School for more details.

Foundation Classes

Our Foundation class is designed as an introduction into dog training and is a six week course. We encourage all the family to come along and learn, and for this reason our classes are kept small to allow for a friendly, relaxed atmosphere.

Topics covered within the course are:

  • Teaching the sit
  • Teaching the down
  • Teaching wait & stay commands
  • Teaching the recall
  • Walking on a loose lead
  • Teaching the ‘leave’ command
  • Teaching appropriate ways to greet people
  • Understanding importance mental stimulation and appropriate play

The success of the course and your dogs training is largely dependant on you and the whole family. We will provide you with the relevant knowledge and demonstrate the practical handling skills required, but it is important you practice the exercises at home, in a variety of contexts and environments. Every week, a handout will be provided to formulate a week by week dog training package. The handout will provide you with educational learning about dogs and behaviour, and details the exercises and training that need to be practiced before the next class.

Improver Classes and Beginners Agility Classes

The Improver Classes are designed to build on the foundations of training established in our puppy and beginner foundation classes, including teaching a retrieve, training with distractions, and distance control.

Our beginner’s dog agility classes are run by an approved Agility Club Instructor.

Why not have some fun with your dog, teaching it to negotiate jumps, tunnels and weave poles, with the possibility of progressing to agility at competition standard?

1-1 Dog Training

one to one dog training

For those people in which attending group classes is not suitable or they would prefer more personalised support for specific training problems, we offer one to one training. These sessions are ideal for tackling a specific aspect of training that you are finding difficult, in the environment that you are experiencing the problems, such as on a walk or in the local park.

For one to one training I travel throughout Hampshire, West Sussex, parts of Surrey and Dorset. Please contact us for more details. Types of problems dealt with in a one to one training session include; improving heelwork, gaining more focus and control when on a walk and general recall issues.
